Serif Affinity 1.8 update adds IDML, PSD smart objects imports, template support and more

One of the headline features for Affinity Photo and Designer is support for smart objects in PSD imports, which maintains the full resolution and edibility of layers within any object. The rest of the features found in version 1.8 can be seen in the change logs below.

On February 26, 2020, Serif released updated versions of Affinity applications. Affinity Publisher 1.8 adds support for importing IDML files, pre-rasterization validation, template support, and document merge.

But symbols are missing, as are page templates. Instanced layers and smart objects sort-of can work as a work-around, but anyone familiar with a design app that includes page support would expect some kind of master page function. And symbols, as in most vector illustration software.

This unique trifold brochure comes in a square-shaped design, which makes it a great choice for crafting a brochure that stands out from the crowd. The template is supported by Adobe Indesign and it features smart objects for easier editing as well.
