BCS Exam

There are 27 categories of civil service positions under BCS exam, which are divided into four groups: General Cadre, Professional/Technical Cadre, General Education Cadre, and Technical Education Cadre. The syllabus and exam pattern of BCS exam consist of three stages: Preliminary Test (MCQ), Written Test (Subjective), and Viva Voce (Oral). The preliminary test is a screening test that consists of 200 MCQ questions covering various subjects such as Bangla, English, General Knowledge, Mathematics, etc. The candidates have to score at least 120 marks out of 200 to qualify for the written test. The written test is a descriptive test that consists of different papers according to the cadre group and category of the candidates. The total marks of the written test vary from 900 to 1800 depending on the number and type of papers. The candidates have to score at least 50% marks in each paper to qualify for the viva voce. The viva voce is an oral test that consists of a panel interview and a psychological test. The total marks of the viva voce are 200 and the candidates have to score at least 50% marks to pass the viva voce. The final merit list of the successful candidates is prepared based on the aggregate marks obtained in the written test and the viva voce.

Departmental and Senior Scale Exam




Departmental and senior scale exam is another type of exam conducted by BPSC for recruiting candidates for various departmental and senior scale positions in the public service sector. Departmental and senior scale positions are those that are reserved for the existing public service personnel who want to upgrade their rank and status.


The candidates who can apply for departmental and senior scale exam are those who have completed at least two years of service in their respective positions and have obtained satisfactory performance reports. The candidates have to apply for their preferred position according to their eligibility.
